"Our Boys...A Perfect Season on the Plains with the Smith Center Redman" Comes Out in Paperback on August 3rd

by Jeff Fisher
Kansas High School Football Huddle

With the start of the 2010 Kansas high school football season still two weeks away, I've got the perfect way to jump start the season...go grab a copy of Our Boys: A Perfect Season on the Plains with the Smith Center Redmen that comes out in paperback tomorrow.

As I reported last year in my review last August, New York Times writer Joe Drape does a great job of putting his readers in the middle of the tiny town of 1,931.  The national bestseller chronicles Smith Center's drive for a fifth straight Kansas 2A high school football championship, but it's more than just football...it's classic middle America.

What I respect the most about Drape's reporting is that is actually moved his family to Smith Center!  Drape didn't report on Smith Center, he lived it!

For those of you who don't know, Smith Center's streak of five straight titles came to an end when it lost to Centralia 20-12 in overtime in the 2009 state title game.  The loss also ended the Smith Center win streak at 79 straight.
